LCD Screen of the Upcoming iPad 3 may be Supplied by Samsung and LG instead of Sharp

Contradictory to the earlier reports, where Sharp was touted as the leading supplier of high res. LCD panels and whose displays were going to be utilized in the making of 3rd gen iPad, current reports portray a completely different picture. As uncovered by Electronic Times Internet News, Sharp was unable to pass congregate with Apple regarding mass production issues. It’s because of this Samsung started building iPad 3 panels from December and LG is also expected to join it in production from this month.

What sounds confusing is that if Sharp’s IGZO technology is out of the display race, will the Cupertino giant still be able to maintain the rumored Retina resolution of 2048*1536? Let’s see! The IGZO technology was expected to use zinc, gallium and indium to give iPad a much slimmer design, but it had some issues regarding yield that led Apple to continue using IPS technology for its screen.

The website also repeats that iPad 3 will be debuting in Q1. Apple has set the target of manufacturing over 65 million iPad 3 LCD panels by the end of this year. However, for the initial production, both Samsung and LG are expected to hold equal shares of display units as Apple will be requiring around 5 million of them at initiation.
