Apple Working on 2 Tablet models Codenamed J1 and J2, iPad 3’s Codenamed J2

A few days back, Digitimes reported that Apple is working on two Tablet-based projects that have been allotted codenames J1 and J2, with J2 being an upgraded version of J1 (both being different versions of iPad 3). Apple has not yet made its mind up on what project to use at the final launch, but component manufacturers have hit on to the pilot production and are in preparation of producing units in mass. Both these Tablets will have high resolution, so Apple wants manufacturers to incorporate two LED light bars (one on right and left) instead of one. However, suppliers were finding it difficult to comply with this requisite along with the thickness requirement of the Tablet. So, some of them came up with an alternate design of fitting in two LED chips inside one light bar.

Following this report of Digitimes, 9To5Mac has posted a screenshot of iOS 5 code strings, which confirms that the device codenamed J2 is Apple’s product. However, J2 seems to be a 3G model as it was referred with other CDMA iOS gadgets. Mention of J1 has not been found anywhere in the iOS 5 code, says 9To5Mac.

J2 iPad 3 has been spotted in iOS 5’s code, which means that it is being tested against iOS 5 software. In fact, we have been hearing about J2 since a very long time now (after initial betas of iOS 5.0). Besides, in the image, a device named T39 can also be seen under the testing phase. Though nothing known about it, there is a possibility that this gadget may connect to cellular networks.
