Apple to Ship iPad 3 in March and “iPad 4” in October, Says Digitimes!
OMG! Wasn’t iPad 3 enough already? I guess not! According to “dependable” sources of Digitimes, iPad 3 is seeking launch in March and like iPhone and like iPod Touch, would come adorned with a high resolution Retina Display. Well, the tale does not end here! Digitimes’ sources also report that the next generation iPad will be followed by next-to-next generation iPad (iPad 4) in October! Hard to digest… Isn’t it?
The iPad 4 is being claimed to come loaded with “killer applications”, and is assumed to give a hard time to a rumored to-be launched Tablet (by Google) and touchscreen gadgets based on Windows 8 OS.
Digitimes describes iPad 4 as “much upgraded hardware specifications and integrated applications so as to compete with an array of Android-, Wintel- or WoA (Windows on ARM)-based tablet PCs to be released in the fourth quarter.”
The report also says that iPad 3 would feature a stronger battery and a QXGA display that will have a resolution of 1536×2048 pixels. However, it adds that “the gadget may not be as amazing as expected.” Apple will not be discontinuing the availability of iPad 2 after iPad 3 is launched, but will offer it at reduced prices ($399).

My stomach tickles when I think I will get to see launch of two iPads in the same year, so I am sure yours does too! However, before you get too thrilled, let’s make a few conclusions about what would be the scenario if Apple introduces two iPad models in a single year.
- If in reality the company is planning to launch two iPads in a row, it will always want to give iPad 3 a sufficient amount of time to hold its position in the market. So, iPad 3 in March and iPad 4 in fall? No! Not possible! However, iPad 2S with better processor, greater storage capacity and better RAM can be followed by the next generation iPad (iPad 3).
- iPad 2S may also incorporate a better camera and Siri support, but I really don’t really think Apple will go any further than adding these two specs in it.
- iPad 4 (or better address it as iPad 3 as it will be following iPad 2S) may then be somewhat a redesigned version with major hardware upgrades.
Apple loves it when its Tablets are launched in spring and iPhones are made public in late summer / early fall. So, most probably, we will be getting our hands on iPad 3 (or iPad 2S) in spring 2012. On the basis of all we have heard until now, the next generation iPad may sport Siri, Retina Display, A6 Processor, greater storage space and greater RAM. It may also be slightly redesigned (like increased thickness) in order to encompass certain internal changes.
